What is a Computer? - Part 2 - Types of Computers

our computer training for today will focus on different types of computers. In our last lesson, we talked about what a computer is and the history of computers. Computers can be very large or very small. There are super-computers, very large computers with thousands of linked microprocessors that perform extremely complex calculations. Some computers are installed in cars, TV, stereo system, computer, and even household appliances.

Each computer design is built to perform certain tasks and functions. Desktop and personal computers are designed to be used by one person at a time. In our computer basics lesson today, you will learn about different types of PCs:. Desktops, laptops, PDAs and Tablet PC

desktop computer

Desktop PC (as the name suggests) are designed for use in a desk or table. They are generally larger and faster than other types of personal computers. Desktop computers are made up of separate components. The system unit is the main or principal components in your computer system. Rectangular shape can sit at a desk or floor. Other components include a keyboard, mouse, speakers and monitor.

laptop computers

Laptops are usually lightweight notebooks with a thin screen LCD screen. I am sure you must have seen a lot of them, or even using a computer for your own basic training. Sometimes called notebook computers because they can be used instead of a notebook with paper. Laptops can also operate on batteries, so you can take anywhere you need to work. Do you know what the Tablet PC? Tablet PCs are notebook computers that combine features of laptops and handheld computers. Like laptops, tablet PCs are very powerful, fast and have a screen like the pills. Like handhelds, tablets may allow you to make notes and draw pictures directly on the screen, usually with a tablet pen instead of a stylus. Did you know that the tablets can transform your handwriting into typed text? Some Tablet PC has a screen that swivels and developed to reveal the computer keyboard.
