Tips For Setting Ground Rules for A Conference Call - 5 Standard Meeting Rules of Conduct

How do people work together can be difficult. Whether you are running a conference call to hold a meeting or run a teleseminar, there are certain rules that you really need to spend.

Of course, every encounter is different and certain types of meetings have different requirements than others. But if you're creating policies from scratch, you're bound to miss a few.

While participation is good - perhaps even mandatory - it is very time consuming to start from the bottom every time. Not to mention frustrating as i usually do this step before everyone is comfortable.

So what do you do?

One of the tricks that I found very helpful is to have a set of standard rules to be used as a base for all my facilitation - training, decision making and information. The media and the use of which could be used to change the rules, but basically, I join all these rules. I think as I explained the meaning behind each rule, the participants begin to open.

So, here are five basic rules that I wanted to include in all my conference calls and teleseminars.

1 The practice of openness . In business, it is not always possible to be completely open. But within these limits, we are all here to share. Share experiences, exchange ideas, share the hope. But openness is not just limited to the preparation for the division. It also means leaving behind the agenda. And that means being open to new ideas and new ways of thinking about things.

2 The practice of respect. Practicing respect for each other is probably the most important of the basic rules. Respect takes many forms. You respect each other's opinions. You respect each other's time. You respect each other's feelings. You respect each others boundaries. You respect the confidentiality and secrecy.

3 The practice of participation . Meetings do not work well if there is only one person attending them. Participation is only about speaking up. It is not just about asking questions when you do not understand. Participation is about recognizing that a key part of the conference call or teleseminar. It's about listening, thinking and questioning not only the sitting.

5 Avoid interruptions. Welcome to the first half of the twenty-first century. Not only do we have to worry about showing respect, and not interrupting other people while on the floor. Not only do we have to worry about how rude and carry on other conversations. But we have to worry about other people to be rude and interrupts us while we are on the phone. And we still need to worry about your phone or blackberry or e-mail to interrupt everyone else.
